We live in a society which values the young and ‘the latest thing’. Yet most of our churches struggle to attract young people and we worry about how we can do that. Should we not perhaps give some focus to the thought that God wants to use us precisely because we are old? This ecumenical day will explore just that thought. We will look at the elderly people in the Bible and Christian history and consider how we can nurture the gifts of the elderly in their own homes as well as in church including those who live with dementia. Speakers will be Revd Chris Swift, Director of Chaplaincy for Methodist Homes for the Aged and Bishop David McGough, Lead Bishop to the Pastoral Care Project. Other contributors will introduce specific projects including Memory Worship: Worship for Those with and without Dementia led by Revd Julia Monaghan.
