Generating Income

The Feed In Tariff scheme stopped accepting new applications after 31 March 2019. If you installed solar panels and had a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certificate issued by 31 March 2019, you can apply to your energy supplier until 31 March 2020.

Solar PV systems are, however, eligible for the Smart Export Guarantee which was introduced by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) to pay small-scale renewable energy generators for the electricity they export to the grid. The Smart Export Guarantee came into force on 1 January 2020.

The Energy Saving Trust has a Solar Energy Calculator that helps you see the benefits you might see from installing a solar PV system.
